Are you aware that you are sabotaging your potential?
This is a terrifying question to be asked. Or to read.
We always like to pass on the blame. Never wanting the ball to be in our court. NEVER.
It’s a constant race against time to make sure that under these circumstances the ball is not in your court.
If it is – it’s as though you aren’t doing anything to make things move forward. If the ball is in fact in their court, then they are to blame for you not moving forward.
Let’s look at this in a different way. If you have your own goals, you know what you want to achieve, you have a dream career.
But yet, you are willing for someone else to be in control of that. Waiting to see if they can move things forward. Putting all your eggs in their basket. There are a million metaphors for this situation. A favorite though – “I like to have my ducks in a row”.
By leaving your future up to someone else, to move it forward – you aren’t making any of this easier. You aren’t speeding things up, and you are even going to lose control over it. Just because you pass on the responsibility to someone else, short term or long term, regardless – your potential, your own personal gain, it won’t be 100% in your control for a positive outcome , unless you take full responsibility. Full control.
Take the ball back to your court. This should be a priority, not a back up plan.
