Spending lots of money on trendy hipster food shouldn’t always be frowned upon.
You only live once. You’re only young once. Who knows when Instagram will shut down? How long before they decide beautiful fruit sushi and unicorn bagels should become extinct?
Judge as much as you want. The reason food is evolving, is because of this generation. Unicorn bagels and Kale burgers, or mason jar cocktails. These weren’t made for 80 year olds who are going to take a picture on a camera, have them developed and hung on a stocking at Christmas.
Aside for the photography bonus from beautiful trendy food – the money aspect is hanging in front of us too.
If its an experience in itself, that you can enjoy and savor, not just “well once you’ve eaten it , it’s gone” then it’s not money that is wasted. It’s an opportunity to enjoy something – to make a memory and a story behind it. The reason its called trendy is because it comes and goes.
Think of Instagram, and other social media as a diary. One of the best things to do, is to scroll and scroll and see what you were posting/tweeting 5 years ago. You can see that you were hanging out with friends who you no longer call friends. You can remenise and become all nostalgic about a weird cocktail that you were introduced to. Or scroll far enough to find out what you were eating in July 2007.
Moment of truth: In 7 years time, it will be amazing to see that you had your Unicorn bagel and enjoyed it enough to post about it.
