The standard millennial can be perceived so many times and in so many ways, as a spoiled brat, or an over flaunted vegan hipster. But what about the rest? What about the middle ones who don’t fall into these extreme categories. Just because you were born in a specific decade, doesn’t necessarily me that you can be “put in a box”. Here are 10 common misconceptions and confusions , assumptions, that everyone makes about millennials.
- No, not every millennial is a PETA fan, a vegan who is a Greenpeace fanatic. Tolerance however is a lot cooler than it used to be. It just seems more acceptable than ever now, to be more tolerant and to befriend animals so that stand up for your beliefs when it comes to animals.
- Not all of us are Hipsters. A millennial connotation: Automatically we think of bright colorful outfits, a stock photo perhaps , like the google colors as human characters. But, with SnapChat glasses, and hipster type beards. The millennial period is essentially, if you were in your prime years in the new millennium. Supposedly, if you were born after 1985, up until 2000, then you can call yourself that prime time millennials. Just because a common trend among this age gap is hipster style, doesn’t mean , that sort of lifestyle suits our personalities.
- We get picked for jobs that we are inexperienced for. This is a surprisingly common occurrence. An example: A 40 something SEO expert applies for the job and is running against a college drop out, 23-26 years of age. No longer does work or life experience over rule everything else. The world of online marketing, values, above anything else, diversity, relevance to a young culture, and bringing innovation to their work environment. Unfortunately, the 40 something, even though they might look better on paper, every day, it’s getting harder to win over, the charismatic, energized 20 something.
- That, we are all kids at heart. It comes across that millennials are 30 year old boy’s and girls. We are so much more mature than what we come across as. Female millennials love tea parties with vintage old lady style china. Millennial guys, love those “Gentlemen’s Boxes” and Cravats.
- We are the world leaders of Social Media and no-one else will ever conquer such a battle of the social media marketing world. HUGE misconception. We’ve grown up in a time, where, without apps and smartphones, not only would we be bullied, left out, missing out on the vital aspects of our social circles, but above all, it’s the way of the future. Our world is moving forward so fast. Without staying on top of social media, just like every other person on this planet, we’d feel like we were cavemen/women.
