The best fire back questions to ask at the end of an interview.

Not for the faint-hearted, however, one of the most difficult parts of an interview, is the moment at the end when they ask if you have any questions for them. Most people brush this off with a “nope I think I have everything I need to know”.

Are you crazy? This is an ideal opportunity to find out more and stand out from the crowd. Ask something the right way and it could get you on the short list to success.

Here are the top 5 questions to ask at the end of your interview

  1. “Is there anything else that you are looking for that I don’t have?” You have to be brave to ask this, but if you are either feeling overly confident, or on the other hands, if you know it’s gone sour, this is your moment to find out on the spot what it is, without the torture of waiting for a callback. You might not get the answer you want to hear, but it’s the most direct way of getting some very clear feedback.
  2. “When are you looking for someone to start?” – Already they have a start date in mind. If they have not already told you this in the interview, then you MUST ask this. It’s a great way to show you are still interested regardless of how the interview has gone, up until now.
  3. Turn it around and ask them “What’s the best thing about working here?”, or “What’s the biggest challenges you face?” This way you can get a more personal perspective. Watch how they ponder for a moment and enjoy the heat being taken off you for once!
  4. “Can you tell me the day to day responsibilities?” If your interview has gone smoothly already, then all the ground work has already been done. You will know all the basics. But by emphasizing the routine, day to day aspect, gives you a chance to here it more thoroughly and clears up any parts of the position you are curious about.
  5. “Who do you consider your main competitors?” Definitely a great question to ask when the ball is in your court. By asking this , you get the chance to see where they see themselves! It also gives you a chance to flaunt your own knowledge and drop a few names, so that they understand you know this industry well enough.
