Often, we see the word millennials and we imagine, trendy 20 somethings, holding vintage cameras, or staring at their phones, maybe wearing a trilby hat in Coachella…
Other times, the word hipster crops up along with an image of flannel and groomed beards.
Where does the cross between these two sub cultures (if we can call them that) lie?
Supposedly, “Millennials” is a term used more for the age that they are born. Just like baby boomers and what not. You can google all the facts and numbers extensively and the overall outcome is that, they grew up in their prime time of when the rest of the world was adjusting to the new millennium.
Hipster, is more of a lifestyle, and a culture, as some would put it. Overly cliched, and with all the buzz feed lists in the world, it can still be undefined. Hipster was used in the passed for so many different meanings, and yet here we are in 2016 using it again for our own definition of an alternative lifestyle so to speak.
From the research, and if you hunt google enough, it comes down to the fact that, Millennial is defined by age, and hipster is defined by lifestyle.
So…potentially you could be a 16 or a 70 year old hipster, but you cannot be a 16 or 70 year old millennial. Correct? Care to challange this outcome? Leave your comments below!
